Ifrah Foundation, in collaboration with UNFPA Somalia, is about to launch an ambitious campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Somalia. The pledge-based Dear Daughter Campaign will work on three levels from advocacy to awareness raising to community empowerment to ensure sustainable impact on the prevalence of FGM. 

Ifrah Foundation is now seeking to recruit two (2) consultants to undertake the roles of:

1) Advocacy Coordinator
 

2) Community Empowerment Coordinator.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

 ADVOCACY COORDINATOR

This role will:
 

  • Advocate for the Campaign, working to promote the vision and potential impact, building momentum to ensure the Campaign is well regarded and positioned in such a manner that people want to engage and participate.

  • Take lead on initiatives designed to engage influential individuals and stakeholders in understanding and promoting the campaign such as individual ‘Dear Daughter” pledges;

  • Take lead in organising a high-level Government panel or international religious scholars’ seminars.

  • Take lead on engaging well recognised Somali celebrities to support campaign and make pledges of their own.

  • Work with institutional stakeholders to endorsement the campaign such as international Organisations/NGOs working to eliminate FGM.

  • Work with the Media Team to ensure maximum coverage of events and initiatives across a variety of media from TV to radio and print.


The idea candidate will:
 

  • Understanding of, and commitment to, promoting gender equality and human rights.

  • Have at least 2 years’ experience working to influence high level political, religious and social/cultural actors to take affirmative action.

  • Have experience working with a variety of diverse actors simultaneously to achieve one shared goal;

  • Be fluent in both English and Somali with strong writing skills in both languages.

  • Be highly motivated with an ability to work alone and as part of a team.

COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT COORDINATOR

This role will:

 

  • Advocate for the Campaign, working to promote the vision and potential impact, building momentum to ensure the Campaign is well regarded and positioned in such a manner that people want to engage and participate.

  • Take lead on initiatives designed to engage communities and those working in the community to come on board with the campaign;

  • Take the lead, in close collaboration with Ifrah Foundation, in developing a Somali national network of men to end FGM;

  • Take the lead, in close collaboration with Ifrah Foundation, in developing a Somali national network of young people to end FGM;

  • Work with the Media Team to ensure maximum coverage of events and initiatives across a varied of media from TV to radio and print.

 

The idea candidate will:

 

  • Understanding of, and commitment to promoting gender equality and human rights. • Have at least 2 years’ experience working with and in communities, steering significant social change and changes in social norms.

  • Have experience working on a variety of diverse actors simultaneously to achieve one shared goal.

  • Be fluent in both English and Somali with strong writing skills in both languages.
